Rob Carmichael - The OCA's 2020 Dorothy Walter Award Recipient
Please join us in congratulating Rob in being awarded the Ontario Camping Association (OCA) Dorothy Walter Award (Awarded for providing outstanding service over a period of time to the camp community).
When Rob joined CampBrain in 1999 he wanted to create an amazing product, provide the best service to camps in the industry, but more importantly find ways that CampBrain could give back to the Camp Community and get more kids to camp. Rob has done this and so much more over the past 20+ years by volunteering his time to the OCA in many different capacities. Here is what was said about Rob in the OCA Awards Program and in his nomination for the award:
“Rob’s contributions to OCA have been significant and sustained. It started with a couple of years as Treasurer of the Annual Conference Committee in 2001 and 2002. He spent nine years on the Board of Directors over the past two decades, five as Treasurer and two as Vice President. He served on numerous committees and task forces over this time as well, including Executive Director Task Force, Executive Director Search, and Membership Fee Review. To this day, Rob remains a significant presence on the Finance Committee, a role he has held for the last nine years.
During numerous years of change and challenge, it has been Rob’s steady hand that has allowed the OCA to remain financially viable. Rob’s sharp eye and astute thinking has led to a fiscally stronger OCA. As OCA Vice President in 2018, he led with distinction during the transition between Executive Directors. From 2015 to 2018, Rob served admirably as the OCA’s representative to the Canadian Camping Association and was a strong voice for Ontario within the national association. An OCA Preferred Vendor as Co-Owner of CampBrain, Rob has also been a constant presence on the OCA Preferred Vendors Committee and a thoughtful voice within OCA for all Preferred Vendors. During his final year as Vice President, Rob also served as the Co-Chair of our Annual Conference alongside Julie Gallie and Jeff Bradshaw.
Taking on the herculean task of shifting the Conference model back to a volunteer/staff team, Rob was virtually a fulltime volunteer and his leadership made a substantial difference as the Conference attracted its largest delegate count in over a decade and exceeded all financial goals. Rob is the consummate volunteer. Engaged, thoughtful, energetic and devoted to the success of OCA.”
Congratulations Rob! And thank you for continuing to be an inspiration to us all at CampBrain.
